Tree Top Piru

The Tree Top Piru (TTP), also known as Tree Top Bompton Piru and the West Side Trees, are primarily an African-American Piru street gang located on the West Side of Compton, California. The Tree Top Pirus history roots can be traced back to the 1970s, by the 1980s, they built an reputation for violence. This gang is internationally known throughout the United States, with a popular branch in Baltimore, Maryland.

The Tree Top Piru neighborhood is located in the northern region of Compton, south of Rosecrans Ave between Aranbe Ave and Acacia Ave. The Tree Top Piru gang consist of several cliques, the most noticed ones are the 300 block and 400 Block, which are east of Aranbe Ave. Other cliques consist of the 500 Block and the 600 Block, which is west of Aranbe Ave. The 800 Block and the 900 Block, is represented by N. Hickory Street.

In Entertainment

The Tree Top Pirus, have a tremendous presence in the music industry, due to being connected to successful musicians such as DJ Quik and YG 400 as well as Hi-C. This gang became a national household name throughout the entertainment world after the debut of DJ Quik, in 1991. In the same year, another local rapper by the name of Hi-C, rose to fame with the release of “Skanless” (album).

In 2008, the Tree Top Pirus, stake in the hip hop rap culture was reinforced with the rise of YG 400, who made an impact with the release of “Toot It And Boot It” featuring another prominent artist by the name of Ty$ Dolla who is also associated with the Tree Top Pirus. Other rappers under this gang are Kedaru (Dipset West) and Slim 400.

In The News

In 1999 the Tree Top Pirus expanded across the United States, especially in the state of Maryland. The Tree Top Pirus was started in the Washington County Detention Center in Hagerstown, Maryland. The Tree Top Piru Bloods, made headlines when a high-ranking female member Michelle “Michelle Hell” Hebron, was implicated in a murder and drug trafficking was sentenced to 30 years in a penitentiary. Along with Twenty-two others, who have been convicted of racketeering conspiracy.

Allies & Rivals

The Tree Top Pirus are allies of the West Side Pirus and the Campanella Park Piru. One of their main rivals are the Compton Varrio Tortilla Flats, a Latino street gang. For instance, on April 16, 2009, three teenage African-American males with ties to the Tree Top Pirus were traveling on foot when they were confronted by a carload of high-ranking members of the Compton Varrio Tortilla Flats.

Multiple shots ring out near the intersection of Acacia Ave and Elm Street. When police arrived on the scene they found a Latino male, the driver of the car slumped over the steering wheel with a bullet wound to the head. One of the black male (the shooter), was charged for the killing and was sentenced to 21-years.

The Tree Top Pirus have a long standing rivalry with the 145 Neighborhood Piru and the Fruit Town Pirus, who are just North of Rosecrans Ave. They are also known to feud with the Compton Varrio 70s, Compton Varrio 155 and the Compton Crips (especially the Palmer Blocc Compton Crips).
