Varrio Mesa Locos

The Varrio Mesa Locos (VMLS), also known as Varrio Mesa Locos 13 (VMLS13) or simply Mesa Locos (MLS) are primarily an Mexican-American street gang located in the Mesa Margarita, neighborhood on the West Side of Oceanside, in San Diego County, California. This gang originated sometime in the early 1980s, around the Libby Lake Park area, between Calle Vallecitos and Calle Montecito.

The Varrio Mesa Locos share the Masa Margarita also known as the “Back Gate” community, with the Deep Valley Bloods, a predominantly Samoan blood gang who mainly feud with the Deep Valley Crips, an African-American street gang who is also located in the Mesa Margarita neighborhood of Oceanside. This region of town, is known as the West Side Valley, by members of the Mesa Locos 13.

Cop Killer

In 2003, the Mesa Locos made headlines after being linked to the murder of Tony Zeppetella, a police officer. June 13, on a friday afternoon Officer Tony Zeppetella, noticed and pulled over a suspicious looking vehicle in front of the Navy Federal Credit Union, driven by 27-year-old Adrian Camacho, an ex-con with gang affiliation to the Varrio Mesa Locos. Officer Tony Zeppetella was walking back to his police cruiser when Camacho open fire.

Officer Zeppetella was fatally shot in the neck, but manage to return fire, shooting Camacho once in the leg. The suspect exited his car walked up to the officer, pistol whipped him, and shot him again, this time using the officer’s gun. Afterwards, Camacho fled the scene by stealing the police car, and drove to former in-laws, were he barricaded himself on the second floor, which led to a four hours standoff, according to the Oceanside Police Department.

Officer Zeppetta, was transported to a near-by hospital (Palomar Medical Center), where he later died. Adrian Camacho, was found guilty of first degree murder and sentenced to death. Ironically, Officer Zeppetella was a former member of the Mesa Locos, who made a change for the best.

Libby Lake City Park

The Libby Lake City Park, is a residential park located on Calle Montecito, in Oceanside, California. However, the park is best known for its quadruple homicides, involving teenagers. On May 3, 2011, 16-year-old Fernando Felix Solano and his 14-year-old girlfriend Sandra Salgado, were gunned down as retaliation for a member of the Deep Valley Crips, being jumped by members of the Varrio Mesa Locos.

On March 13, 2013, 16-year-old Edgar Sanchez Rios and his 13-year-old friend Melanie Virgen, and their both were gunned down in the Libby Lake Park. When Police arrived at the park, they found two teenagers David Garcia along with David Redon suffering non-fatal gunshot wounds and found two other teens (Edgar Sanchez Rio and Melanie Virgin) deceased with multiple gunshots wounds.

Allies And Rivals

The Mesa Locos are allies of The Mexican-Mafia and have a long history of rivalry with the Deep Valley Crips. In 1995, Nelson Quiles, a member of Deep Valley Crips was stabbed 16 times by Angel Manuel Armigo, a known member of the Mesa Locos. Angel Manuel Armigo was found guilty of conspiracy to commit second degree murder. However, the Deep Valley Crips, retaliated on the night of May 3, 2011, around ten o’clock.

On January 2, 2012, 20-year-old Stephen Board, known on the streets as “PKO” an African-American (male) who was a member of the Crook Mobsters Gangster Crips, was walking on Redondo Drive and Roja Drive when he was shot in back of the head as he ran for his life. Eulise Valverde Solano, Robert Cano Montelongo and Benjamin Soria, three known members of the Mesa Locos were later charged with the murder of Stephen Board.

The shooting death of Stephen Board was retaliation for the murder of a couple who was gunned down by members of the Deep Valley Crips.

The Varrio Mesa Locos 13, also feud with the Varrio Carlos Malos, a well-known Hispanic street gang located in Carlsbad, a city in the North San Diego County. on October 10, 2011, Luciano Velasquez, an active member of the Mesa Locos was eager to make a memorable impression with The Mexican-Mafia. In just five days after being released from an c.

Luciano Valasquez, armed with a pistal, ventured off into the city of Carlsbad, on the 3400 block of Madison Street, an area plagued by the Carlos Malos gang. Valasquez, shot a couple and their friend as they took their dog for a walk, in their neighborhood known as the Barrio. Valasquez was charged with three counts of attempted murder and sentenced to 75 Years to life in prison.
