The Wah Ching Gang are a Chinese American Triad secret society and street gang additionally referred to as “Dub C” originating in San Francisco throughout the early 1960s. At the time, Wah Ching was arranged into one massive gang. The Wah Ching Gang regulated majority of the illegal activity throughout the San Francisco and Los Angeles Asian neighborhoods.
Wah Ching is made up of primarily of teenagers. Triad gang apparel varies from casual to suit and tie outfits making it difficult for authorities to identify them from other local people. The majority of Wah Ching Gang have no association with the triad and are just a street gang taking part in the consistent continuous turf and drug war.
In 1991, Danny “Ah Pai” Wong, the creator and leader of the Wah Ching, was shot and murdered by a Wo Hop To assassin. The Wo Hop To being a larger gang caused the Wah Ching Gang to flee from San Fransisco Chinatown to the LA area. This relocation caused a turf conflict between the Wah Ching and the Asian Boyz Gang (ABZ), which led to the “Summer Madness” on september 20, 1998. Their enemies include the Asian Boyz Cripz, Vietnamese Boyz (VBZ), Wo Hop To, and the Sun Yee On.
Golden Dragon Massacre
The Golden Dragon Massacre, forever changed the image of the restaurant. The massacre occurred on Semptember, 1977, in the Chinatown, region of San Francisco, California. the Golden Dragon Dining establishment located at 816 Washington Street. the Joe Boys attempted to assassinate members of the Wah Ching Gang, but the assassination attempt backfired. Which resulted in the deaths of 5 individuals, consisting of 2 innocent tourists, and injuries to 11 individuals, none was gang related. The motive for the murder attempt was retaliation for the killing of Joe Boy Felix Huey, that was murdered in a shootout with Wah Ching members at the Ping Yuen housing projects previously. 5 members of the Joe Boys Gang were apprehended and pronounced guilty for the incident, with 3 of them still serving jail sentences as of 2013. Bill Lee (Author) and former member of the Joe Boys Gang, covered the event and his past affiliation with the Joe Boys Gang in his publication, Chinese Playground: A Memoir. The two gangs longstanding conflict started over a disagreement of fire crackers sales. The Golden Dragon bloodbath is responsible for the creation of the San Francisco Police Department’s Asian Gang Task Force, which is alsothe main cause of downfall for the Joe Boys Gang. The Golden Dragon closedits doors, and later reopened as the Imperial Palace restaurantt.
