The 52 Hoover Gangster Crips (HGC), also known as the 5-Deuce Hoover Gangster Crips, are an active African-American street gang located on the West Side of South Los Angeles, California. The gang originated in the 1970s around 52nd Street and Hoover Street, between Vermont Avenue and Figueroa Avenue. By the late 1980s, law-enforcement sources estimated that the Five-Deuce Hoover Crips had over 1,000 active members in South Central Los Angeles.

The 52 Hoover Gangster Crips are a subset of the larger Hoover Criminals Gang and are affiliated with the Gangster Crips card. Unlike most Hoover sets, which later distanced themselves from the Crips identity and adopted the “Criminals” designation, the 52 Hoovers remained Crips. They are recognized as the only Hoover subset to retain official Crips affiliation.

Members of the 52 Hoovers traditionally wear blue to signify their Crips identity, along with orange, which is historically associated with Hoover-affiliated sets.

They share a particularly close alliance with the Trouble Gangster Crips, commonly referred to as “51-2” or “51-Deuce,” in which the “51” represents 51 Trouble Gangster Crips and the “2” represents 52 Hoover Gangster Crips.

Rivalries involving the 52 Hoovers have historically included several Crips and Blood-aligned gangs, most notably the Van Ness Gangster Bloods, a Brim-affiliated set. Tensions between the Five-Deuce Hoover Crips and Brims were especially pronounced during the mid-1980s, amid broader Crips–Bloods conflicts in South Los Angeles.

One of the most significant incidents associated with this rivalry occurred on October 12, 1984, when members and associates of the Five-Deuce Hoover Crips were gathered at a party in South Los Angeles. The attack was determined to be gang-motivated and arose from ongoing hostilities between Crip-affiliated Hoover sets and Blood-aligned groups, including Brim factions. The incident became a defining moment in the escalation of violence between the 52 Hoovers and Brim gangs during that era.
