The Paramount Gundry Blocc Crips (GBC), also known as Gundry Bloc Crips, are an African-American Crip street gang from Paramount, California. The gang takes its name from Gundry Avenue, where its neighborhood has traditionally been located.

Gundry Blocc Crips are one of the few African-American gangs in Paramount, a city whose gang scene has long been dominated by Hispanic Sureño gangs. The gang is best known for its rivalry with Paramount Varrio San Streets and other nearby Sureño gangs.

History

Gundry Blocc Crips developed in Paramount during the 1970s and 1980s. The gang took its name from Gundry Avenue and established itself in the central part of the city.

By the early 1990s, Gundry Blocc Crips were recognized as one of the few African-American gangs operating in Paramount, alongside a growing number of Hispanic gangs throughout the city. During the same period, gang violence became a major issue in Paramount, leading to increased enforcement by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and the creation of anti-gang programs such as TARGET.

Territory

Gundry Blocc Crips claim an area stretching from Somerset Boulevard to Alondra Boulevard, between Orange Avenue and Gundry Avenue. Their neighborhood is located in the central portion of Paramount.

One of the gang’s best-known cliques is the 1500 Blocc, named after the 1500 block area located within Gundry Blocc territory.

Spane Park and the surrounding residential streets have long been associated with the gang’s neighborhood. Like most small neighborhood gangs, Gundry Blocc Crips are heavily tied to their hood and the streets they claim.

Documented Incidents

The Murder of Ricardo Chavez (2009)

The most significant publicly documented case involving Gundry Blocc Crips stems from the 2009 murder of Ricardo Chavez, a member of the rival Paramount Varrio San Streets gang.

According to court records, Chavez had been tagging inside Gundry Blocc territory prior to the shooting. On May 31, 2009, Chavez was standing outside a residence on Gundry Avenue when two men approached him, questioned him about the tagging, and opened fire. Chavez later died from his injuries.

Prosecutors argued the shooting was connected to the ongoing rivalry between Gundry Blocc Crips and Paramount Varrio San Streets. Obed Estrada was ultimately convicted of first-degree murder with a gang enhancement and sentenced to 50 years to life in prison.

TARGET Anti-Gang Crackdown (1993)

In 1993, Paramount launched the TARGET program, an anti-gang initiative focused on the city’s most active gang members. Authorities increased enforcement efforts against individuals identified as major contributors to gang violence.

City officials later credited the program with helping reduce violent crime throughout Paramount. Like other gangs operating in the city, Gundry Blocc Crips were affected by the increased law-enforcement pressure that followed.

Allies And Rivals

The primary rival of Gundry Blocc Crips is Paramount Varrio San Streets. The feud between the two gangs has been documented for years and has resulted in multiple violent incidents, including the 2009 murder of Ricardo Chavez.

Other rivals have reportedly included Paramount Crazy Mexican Sureños, Paramount Tiny Sureños, and Compton Varrio Segundo.

As one of the few African-American gangs in Paramount, Gundry Blocc Crips have spent much of their history surrounded by larger Hispanic gangs operating throughout the city and neighboring communities.
