An Ohio mom killed herself hours after her 14-month-old son mysteriously died at their home, police said.
Kayelisa Martin, 20, allegedly committed suicide Thursday by walking in front of a semitrailer on busy Interstate 77 in Canton.
It reportedly happened after cops found her little boy Omoyele Gonzalez dead in his bed at her Canton apartment.
Investigators are now trying to piece together exactly what happened.
The Canton Repository reveals officers were called to the property, in the 1600 block of 10th Street, to reports of Martin threatening suicide just after 7:30 p.m.
A preliminary medical examiner report found Omoyele Gonzalez, pictured, didn’t die of any trauma.
Meanwhile, a relative went to the nearby Canton Fire Station No. 7 to report that the toddler was dead. However, when cops arrived at the home, Martin had gone missing.
They tried to find her, but were soon informed she had “committed suicide by walking in front of a moving vehicle at milepost 115 near Akron-Canton Airport.”
Stark County Coroner’s office conducted an autopsy on the toddler, who had no obvious injuries when first discovered Saturday. Initial results have proved inconclusive.
“Preliminary autopsy findings showed that the child did not die of any trauma,” coroner P.S. Murthy said in a statement. Cops are continuing to investigate the deaths and say an earlier car crash could be relevant to their inquiries.
The Canton Repository reports the mom and son were involved in an earlier accident at 6:35 a.m. the same day after Martin lost control of her Nissan Maxima when the wheel started to shake.
The vehicle hit a fire hydrant, shrubs and landscaping rocks before traveling across a parking lot and stopping.
Martin, whose family have set up a fund-raising page to pay for her and her baby’s funeral services, was cited for operating a vehicle without reasonable control.
