Y.G.D. Top Dogg (born Derrick Wade on February 17, 1979) is an African-American rapper from Compton, California. Y.G.D. signed to Death Row Records thru Marion “Suge” Knight, in the 1990s. Top Dogg was featured on “All Bout U” (music video) which is a single released by Tupac Shakur (2Pac), off his album All Eyez On Me.
Top Dogg grow up on the East Side of Compton, in the Ujima Village, and is affiliated with the Village Town Piru (126 Dark Side). In 1997, Y.G.D. Top Dogg released a promo single called “Going Back To Cali” (diss track),where he take shots at Diddy (formerly known as Puff Daddy) and Nortious B.I.G. as well as the whole Bad Boy Records camp.
in 1999, Top Dogg released a single “Top Dogg Cindafella” along with a music video. The song also appeared on Suge Knight Represents: Chronic 2000 (compilation CD). However, by this time many artist’s on Death Row, such as Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre, left the label. Suge Knight were sent to prison and Tupac was killed in Nevada, Las Vagas.
Despite, being signed for over four years, he nevered released an album on Death Row Records. 2008, Top Dogg released Top Dogg Vol.1 (mixtape) thru his independent record label “Dark Side Music.”
