Rollin 50s Crips

The Rollin 50s Neighborhood Crips (R50NHC), also known as the Rollin 50s (R50), consist of three active African-American street gangs: the 55 Neighborhood Crips, 57 Neighborhood Crips, and 58 Neighborhood Crips, located on the west side of South Los Angeles (South Central), California.

The Rollin’ 50s neighborhood stretches from 54th Street to 59th Street, between Vermont Avenue and Western Avenue. The Rollin 50s are part of the Neighborhood Crips (NHC) and fall under the broader Rollin 0’s alliance, a network of sets tied together by proximity, identity, and shared rivalries.

55/57/58 Neighborhood Crips

The 55 Neighborhood Crips were originally known as the “55 Hustlers” before transitioning into the Neighborhood Crips identity by the 1990s. They originated around 55th Street and Normandie Avenue, between Slauson Avenue and 54th Street, during the 1980s. Among the Rollin’ 50s, the 55s are often described as the largest and most active subset.

The 57 Neighborhood Crips, also known as the 5-Seven Neighborhood Crips, originated around 57th Street and Normandie Avenue, between 56th Street and 58th Street. Their presence remains closely tied to the immediate surrounding blocks, maintaining a localized but consistent footprint within the Rollin’ 50s structure.

The 58 Neighborhood Crips, also known as the 5-Eight Neighborhood Crips or 58 Blocc Neighborhood, formed shortly after the 55 Neighborhood Crips. Like the other sets, their identity is rooted in block-based territory, reinforcing the overall structure of the Rollin’ 50s alliance.

Birth of the “Rollin 50s

One of the most significant moments in the set’s history was the mid-90s peace treaty that consolidated the Westside. The 1995 Ceasefire: Leaders from the 55 and 57 sets met on 58th Street between Normandie and Denker to end years of internal “Hustler vs. Hustler” violence.

The unification was built on personal history. Many members had grown up together, attended the same elementary schools, and graduated from Manual Arts High School. By the late 1990s, the younger generation (the “Baby” and “Tiny” homies) began pushing the “Nifty 50s” or “Rollin 50s” identity. This effectively merged the 55, 57, and 58 sets into a single, unified alliance.

Cultural Legacy

The 50s Neighborhood Crips occupy a specific corridor of Westside South LA that has recently gained international fame through media. The territory served as the primary filming location for the hit TV series Snowfall. The house used for the main character, Franklin Saint, was the actual home of an original neighborhood member.

Allies & Rivals

The Rollin 50s Neighborhood Crips are allied with gangs operating under the Neighborhood Crips and Rollin 0’s Crips umbrella, maintaining ties across multiple NHC sets throughout South Los Angeles. However, their most notable rivalries come from both Crip and Blood-affiliated gangs.

Their primary Crip rivals include the: Hoover Criminals Gang, particularly the 59 Hoover Criminals, 52 Hoover Gangster Crips, and the 51 Trouble Gangster Crips. These conflicts reflect the long-standing divide between the Neighborhood Crips (2x) and Gangster Crips (3x), a split that has shaped much of the internal conflict within the Crip identity.

The Rollin’ 50s also maintain rivalries with Blood-affiliated gangs, most notably: 62 Harvard Park Brims and Van Ness Gangster Brims.
