The Duccy Hood Compton Crips (DHCC), also known as Duccy Hood Crips (DHC), are a small African-American street gang based in East Compton, California. The gang claimed a compact neighborhood near Atlantic Avenue and became known for its use of Daffy Duck imagery. Making it one of the few California gangs strongly associated with a cartoon mascot.

Although never one of Compton’s largest gangs, Duccy Hood maintained a presence for decades and gained recognition through references on the Bloods & Crips rap group’s Bangin’ on Wax and Nationwide Rip Ridaz albums. By the 2010s, the gang’s street presence had largely disappeared, and it is now generally regarded as a dormant legacy set.

Early Origins

Duccy Hood Compton Crips originated during the late 1970s alongside several local Crip factions operating in East Compton. While their exact origins remain unclear, by the late 1990s, Duccy Hood had solidified into a functioning neighborhood gang with roughly sixty active members maintaining a presence along Atlantic Avenue.

Controlling a small geographic turf, they relied heavily on a mutual defense alliance with the Atlantic Drive Compton Crips. The two sets shared common rivals, frequently associated with one another, and pooled resources to counter larger surrounding sets. This alliance became one of the defining characteristics of the neighborhood.

During the late 1990s and early 2000s, local task forces repeatedly targeted the group for narcotics distribution and violent crimes. Field interviews from this era documented core members who routinely admitted their affiliations to law enforcement.

As older members were incarcerated or aged out of gang life, recruitment gradually came to a halt. By the mid-2010s, gang investigators classified the set as largely inactive. Much of its traditional territory has since been absorbed or overlapped by neighboring gangs, most notably Compton Varrio Segundo.

Territory

Historically, Duccy Hood Compton Crips claimed a compact section of East Compton stretching from Atlantic Avenue to the Long Beach Freeway (710), primarily between Alondra Boulevard and Compton Avenue.

Nestled between larger rival neighborhoods, the gang’s operations centered around the commercial strips, apartment complexes, and residential blocks along Atlantic Avenue. Despite their numbers, members aggressively defended their territory against larger surrounding gangs.

Their territory overlaps heavily with the Compton Varrio Segundo gang. Despite sharing the same neighborhood, the two gangs reportedly coexisted for many years with only occasional disputes.

Criminal Activity

DHCC’s criminal operations were largely confined to its immediate neighborhood. Drug trafficking served as a significant source of income for some members during the gang’s most active years. Court records show active members accumulated convictions involving narcotics sales, weapons offenses, burglary, auto theft, and armed robbery.

Like many smaller East Compton gangs, Duccy Hood’s criminal activity focused primarily on maintaining influence within its neighborhood rather than expanding beyond its traditional territory.

Documented Incidents

The Murder of Arlando Bryant (1998)

On December 20, 1998, DHCC member Ernest Lamont Williams, known on the street as “Tiny Capone,” participated in the targeted killing of Arlando Bryant. Local associate Anthony Boochee recruited Williams to execute the hit over a personal dispute, falsely claiming Bryant was an undercover district attorney to ensure compliance.

Williams and Atlantic Drive Crip associate Thomas Woodson ambushed Bryant inside his truck near Dwight Avenue and Rosecrans Avenue. Williams shot Bryant fatally with a .45-caliber handgun.

The case remained unsolved until the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Cold Case Unit reopened the investigation. In 2017, Williams and Boochee were convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole. Woodson was convicted of second-degree murder for his role in the crime.

Gang Contacts and Criminal Investigations (2003–2008)

In May 2003, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies conducted a field interview with Wilson “Jay Bone” Mays, who openly claimed membership in the Duccy Hood Compton Crips. In August 2008, Terrence Lee Bracks similarly acknowledged his affiliation during a patrol stop.

While neither contact resulted in immediate major charges, gang experts later utilized both intelligence files in court proceedings to establish that DHCC remained an active criminal street gang despite its declining membership.

The LMG Liquor Shooting (2017)

On June 7, 2017, a violent confrontation occurred outside LMG Liquor on East Compton Boulevard. Tyler Oliver and Danny Candler became involved in a verbal altercation with members of Compton Varrio Segundo. When Candler shouted “Duccy Hood Crip,” the dispute escalated into a physical fight in the street.

Compton Varrio Segundo associate Luis Julian Beltran Perez retrieved a handgun from his vehicle and fired at Candler and Oliver. Although he missed his intended targets, the stray rounds struck passing civilian vehicles, critically injuring four-year-old Pedro B., who was riding in his mother’s car.

Investigators later noted that the incident demonstrated how the Duccy Hood name still carried enough weight to trigger immediate retaliatory violence despite the gang’s decline.

Allies And Rivals

Duccy Hood’s closest ally was the Atlantic Drive Compton Crips. Due to their small size and close proximity, the two neighborhoods frequently associated with one another and share many of the same rivals. Duccy Hood also maintained close ties with Ward Lane Compton Crips and South Side Compton Crips.

Duccy Hood’s most significant rivalries were with Lime Hood Piru, Lueders Park Piru, Compton Varrio Chicano 13, and  Compton Varrio 70s. In later years, territorial overlap with Compton Varrio Segundo became one of the neighborhood’s primary sources of conflict as demographic changes reshaped East Compton.

Recent Activity

By the 2020s, Duccy Hood Crips had ceased functioning as a cohesive street gang. Most documented members were deceased, incarcerated, relocated, or inactive.
